About the book

A personal story between 공空 (emptiness/space) and 공公 (public) as a designer of urban space in France. Right after graduating from university in Korea, she left for France without much preparation. While studying at two art schools in Le Mans and Lyon, she discovered the potential of urban spaces open to everyone. She explored the idea of a collectively created city while working with the urban design collective Cabanon Vertical. Living in France, she remained on the margins of society as a foreigner, constantly questioning life there—yet despite everything, she stayed for nine years. This book brings together her thoughts and experiences from those years, with an emphasis on the “despite it all.”

About the author

Mina Chu lived in France from 2013 to 2023 and now resides in Korea. She is always grateful to have studied in France—a country she had dreamed of since childhood—and even more so to have turned the work she dreamed of during her studies into her profession. Yet she still dreams of becoming a designer—one who also writes and practices yoga. In 2024, she founded the urban space design lab veedl and began a new chapter. She dreams of a city where we can welcome spring together with others.
