As part of the ‘Local Branding Master Plan’ project by the Architectural Research Institute at Chungnam National University, we conducted a qualitative local survey. The project site is a neighborhood in Daesa-dong, nestled at the foot of Bomun Mountain. It is an area where single-story houses, low-rise villas, vacant homes, empty lots, and small vegetable gardens coexist along narrow alleys and steep slopes. Named 'Local Maker's Face,' this project includes the creation of a woodworking shop that embodies and highlights the faces of makers.

Together with the Architectural Research Institute, we observed and documented every corner of the neighborhood, while slowly building relationships with the residents through casual, guerrilla-style interviews. Furthermore, to connect with the community more actively, we hosted three events. These included a workshop where participants freely introduced and chatted about Daesa-dong; a 'Craft Room' (Somssi-bang) where residents gathered at a neighborhood pavilion to knit together; and a Spring Festival, held after completing the local survey, to express our gratitude and mingle with the residents. All of these events were made possible thanks to the participation and support of the community center, a local elementary school, and the residents themselves. In addition, the workshop and the Spring Festival were held at the future site of the woodworking shop, giving residents an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the space.

Throughout this process, we focused on two key goals. The first was to uncover the hidden stories, resources, and culture of the neighborhood to discover its unique local identity. The second was to ensure that the woodworking shop becomes a deeply cherished community facility, rooted in the relationships built together and the memories created within the space.
