This is a participatory design project where residents collaboratively analyze, understand, and imagine their community to directly envision its transformation. We formed a project team consisting of public artists, architects, and photographers, and over two months, carried out basic design education and five workshops in three different communities.

The workshops began with reflections on the self, then expanded to neighbors and the broader community, exploring the strengths, weaknesses, and public nature of each area. Through discussion and imagination, participants generated design ideas aimed at fostering positive local change. By imagining the future they hoped for in their neighborhood, participants were able to grasp the potential for change. At the same time, through sharing and appreciating their neighbors’ diverse voices and lifestyles, they fostered a shared sense of publicness in the community.

There was communication not only between veedl and the residents but also among the residents themselves, enabling them to actively lead the entire design process—from observation and analysis to idea generation and refinement. The project concluded with a results-sharing event, where local residents, officials from Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Office, and the Chungnam Research Institute gathered to discuss the outcomes and future directions of the project.
